Recap: Beyond Algorithms – Self-Empowered Artist Communication outside of the Big Platforms 

What an inspiring and thought-provoking evening! 

Together, we explored the realities of digital dependency, the shifting nature of artist-audience relationships, and creative strategies for communication beyond mainstream platforms.

Panelist Highlights:
Steffi von Kannemann – Co-founder of Better Things, with vast experience in PR/marketing for artists like Rosalía, Caroline Polachek, Mø, and Aurora. Steffi also co-founded Parenthood in Music and shared valuable perspectives on building visibility through thoughtful, strategic outreach.

Zoë Mc Pherson – Artist, sound designer, performer, and founder of the multimedia platform SFX. Zoë talked about building independent infrastructure and self-sustained networks as alternatives to algorithm-driven models.

Explore their interdisciplinary project “Moving” – an immersive experience of hybrid media and self-curated channels.

Mimi Mitina – Berlin-based indie-pop musician and community organizer. Mimi spoke about the role of self-organized meetups, peer exchange, and fostering local connections through grassroots community management.

Marek Tuszynski – Executive Director and co-founder of Tactical Tech, Marek brought in a broader view on digital power, data ethics, and how artists can become more resilient online.

Moderation & Co-Curation by Ivo Sloman – Musician and instrument builder behind Korora, Ivo guided us through the evening’s reflections with great care, bridging the perspectives of tech, music, and personal experience.

Closing DJ Set by Make Like A Tree – A beautiful, slow-travel-inspired vinyl set that closed the evening on a poetic and grounded note.
